Inseparable companions whose existence is impossible without one or the other, getting to a point of perfect unison as they overlap and mark every hour of the day, that is also love.

My work involves a reflection on sites and humans. I combine figurative elements of the cities and people that I have been exposed to in my trips. Urban situations, urban life deeply affects and transforms our existential experience as individuals. I am concerned with how the visual environment models our perception of the world. We are shaped and altered by the modes and manners of the city we lived in. The city becomes the scene of our pulsations and drives. We are like suspended marionettes hovering over multiple imaginary strings, perched over incidents and events that daily amend our lives.

Urban scenery is represented through scattered elements and fragmented segments of the city: landmark buildings, such as Russian Byzantine churches, Art Deco theaters, Celtic palaces or ancients vestibules and arcades from Greek and Roman times pass through our eyes in looking the paintings; street elements such as light posts, park benches, trees; domestic elements, such as chairs, house fans, tables; house and public stairs and swimming pools; highways, tunnels, bridges, obelisks, and squares. They set as a delirious compound of city signals and urban paths we cross over each day of our lives.

I want to represent our city spaces as a new visual model. The viewer will be confronted to hectic and rambling locations where one can journey and stray. They are aerial spaces populated by surprises and dream like visions in which the most humble and unnoticed city components are spotlighted.

The colors in my paintings represent emotional tones of the city landscapes. The blue represents the cosmic depth of the eternal; yellows and reds vision explosive and feverish sites; the purple represents mystical worlds; and the orange represents the joy and dynamic celebration of the existence.

My paintings focus on the ethos of life and the bliss of living.

The Stories of My Life Series, 2008 encapsulates narrative segments of my family life. This series of three pieces focuses on the existential experiences of the turbulent life of my mother. They contain sharp narratives of the hits, the ups and downs, of the life of this exhilarating woman who was the First Miss Venezuela. Her stories and ordeals, told by her in a whimsical mood in my early childhood became fairy tales in my mind and memories. Sofia’s experiences and adventures deeply impacted me.

The first work of this Series, The Goddess, locates during the fifties when there were turbulent and repressive times in Venezuela under Dictator Marcos Perez Jimenez; but at the same time, they were moments of utter happiness for my mother when she was crown in 1952 as Miss Venezuela, well winning the hearts of the Venezuelan people, the adoration of men, and the admiration of women. Moments of ecstasies and exhilarations accompanied her in a rapt of fantasy and celebration, filled with fashion shows, press conferences, clubs parties, and private receptions. My mother became the Goddess! The Venus! The Aphrodite! I was stroke by this experience. Fashion gowns, luxurious banquets, public appearances, these are the first memories I have kept of my mother, pored over photographs, newspapers and magazine articles that she had saved through out the years. From this capsule of time of my mother’s history, a real life fairy tale, my creative world originates. In my work I replicate the photographs and the objects of my mother’s story in a miniature like world; a sort of box container in which I recreate the climax of her coronation, her crown, the flowers and her imperial throne as the ultimate dream of a woman in the peak of her success; conferring my mother, the Goddess, a tangible presence in this micro space of lights and illusions.

I render in The Goddess a personal imaginary theatre, floating the hopes and illusions, the passions and seductions, that a woman feels when elevated in a glimpse of time to a platform of glory.

The second work of this series, The Devoted, pays homage to my mother, when she leaped into another cycle of life, the marriage, and her becoming a wife, and a mother of three children; a time when she confronted sacrifice and surrender to of a new reality in which the fairy tale has ended, and her life became a routine of household tasks and domestic challenges; at last, a life well defined by rigid feminine roles archetypical of women of the fifties.

The one we nurture with information, tastes, freedoms and limits; it is the particular world of each individual being.

This box filled with thoughts and emotions is our “moving house” and the way we LIVE and embellish it will make our lives happy ones, because this fabricated world exists… only in our minds.

This is why people say… every mind is a world!

The world has lost it’s north, seemingly without direction. It’s governing leaders are not stepping forward into progress but backwards into the distractions of neighbors and their common interest, alienating themselves from the original course of helping with the evolution of the population and leading them to peace.

Seems like the NORTH has been lost.

This cubic world speaks upon civilization, which lives within its limits, trapped by its restraining edges, which impose order and disorder to the human race and its environment. This “civilization” has not only moved forward, but also transformed our original world.

Laws, religion, race struggle, species, pollution, nutrition, climate, social classes, communications, politics, and technology: major edges which shape this cubic world.

Then so again: the “Quadrature” of this circle is nothing more than a mathematical problem that presents itself as being “geometrically impossible and unsolvable as to finding a square which it’s area equals the area of a given circle…”

So mankind should transform these limits putting together the human powers of the world that represents our interests, so they can open new fields and rescue the lost balance.
